Meryem’s Ballad is a narrative performance by Babelfis and visual artist Mert Akbal, reinterpreting Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman through the lens of a Turkish guest worker’s journey in 1970s Germany. Premiered at Deutsche Oper Berlin’s Tischlerei stage, the piece combines music, storytelling, and visuals to explore themes of migration, labor, and identity.
The visual design encompassed the creation of a poster and a dedicated website, aiming to reflect the performance's layered narrative and emotional depth. The design approach was restrained and focused, allowing the content to speak for itself without unnecessary embellishment.
